We arrived to a cracking day at Ohariu Valley Golf course, the greens were hard and fast and verging on impossible. Home favourite Boyd 'I've played here before' Atkinson exuded confidence and through a mixture of course knowledge, dumb luck and a semblance of golfing ability, posted what he thought was an unassailable 42 points. Little did he know first-timer and former junior pennant standout Andy Parsons had dusted off his 1984 ladies clubs and took the course to pieces, pipping Boyd for 1st place by birdieing the last whole and taking the spoils with 43 points. Fellow first timer Marty Jillings, fresh off a medal haul at the Police games to rival Michael Phelps, played a solid round coming in 3rd. The ever consistent mini "Italian Stallion" Mike Tofts was 4th, and 1st round winner, Josh "the Brain" McAlpine snuck into 5th spot and extended his overall lead in the tour to 2.5 points.
The course obviously didn't favour the lefties as the 3 players playing the right way - Flavin, Fairley & Dallas, all struggled with the favourable right-handed fairways, greens and pin placements.
Another good turnout with 15 showing up to play, however Donnelly's absence was noted by the fact he was doing an overtime. It was suggested this should result in minus 1 point - the committee has taken note...
The tour is always evolving so if you have a good idea to add just throw it out there and it might make the cut (Boyd we are not doing the matchplay!!!)
