Another perfect Wellington day welcomed the WFBG Golf tour for it's 3rd event at Manor Park. 19 enthusiastic & energetic wannabe golfers turned out all vying to pick up some crucial points in the Race to Wainui championship. Tua Cummings dominated the days play in his first event of the year with a solid 42 points, shooting up to 5th overall in the standings. Young upstart and TAB bookies favourite Marty Jillings had another solid round finishing 2nd on the day, but more importantly surpassed the previous championship leader Josh McAlpine in the overall standings. Despite working in the Hutt and owning a Navman Josh was unable to locate the turn-off for Manor Park and pulled a no-show. Hayden Martin returned after pocketing some over-time money instead of points in the previous round to finish 3rd and move up to 2nd overall. And the Mike & Mike show from Porirua Brown watch finished in a tie for 4th with Dave Marner in his first appearance of the year.
Other happenings of note on the day - JD's much talked about 3 wood (set to revolutionize his game) promised a lot and delivered a little, Kevin "Whisky" Hintz kept his score down with a few unscheduled "practice swings", Fairley & Donnelly's rounds went down faster than Greg Norman at the Masters after looking likely to bank the points early, Boyd's blown out at the TAB from 5-1 to 1000-1 after the bookies realised we weren't playing at Ohariu every round, & Jamies warm and postive outlook on the golf was like a ray of sunshine that kept us all warm during our post round beer.
One change to the tour is that we have added another MAJOR (which means double points) The last event at Wainui will now be "the Open" along with "the Masters" in July...
