Matt "the Weasel" Taylor caused huge controversy on the tour this month as he carded an unbelieable Nett 56!!!!!!! And we thought we were all being played by last years winner Marty Jillings. The score was so outrageous that during the prize giving the friendly local behind the bar was heard to mutter "what a f**ken joke... thats a disgrace... get him out of my sight!" as the scores were read out. He was straight on the old bat phone rallying up the Martonborough Mafia who don't take too kindly to city folk burgling anyone and Matty was lucky to escape without being lynched on the big tree protecting the 10th fairway.
Jamie Molenaar backed up his first round win with another strong showing to finish second, new-comer Dan Meehan 3rd, and Tua, Morp and another first-timer Barrows rounded out the top 5. Kevin Hintz had an absolute Barry Crocker in his return home, not helped by the lack of golf etiquette on display by young Dan Rea... Cell phone calls, "I love yous" to his missus on the phone, wandering off to find previous lost balls, was all enough to almost make Hintz snap. This combined with his waning golf game almost pushed him into early retirement.
It was a great turnout with a few new faces showing up and joining the tour which is great for our numbers and great for the club in general. Keep getting the word out and bring more along... and get that slack Glen Dodd to dust off his bag and get out too.
The Tour committee has also changed the overall scoring system for the year (just because we can) to mimic the fedex cup points system used by the PGA Tour. (Any complaints send them to Michael Crawford - Tour Points Godfather). The reason for this is that it now matters where you finish every time we play. On the old system everyone who didn't finish in the top 5 got the same amount of points, whereas now it makes a difference if you finish 6th or 16th for example. For an exact explanation click this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_point_distributions_of_the_FedEx_Cup So every shot counts.... You now get 20 points for turning up, and 40 if your watch is on duty. And because this system is much fairer I've decided to bin the world rankings (mostly because it just takes me too friggin long to do)... good times!
