The WFBG Pro Tour moved to Wainuiomata for the Fitzroy Tavern Wainui Invitational. Unfortunately tournament patrons Chloe, Ken Laban & the Lomax brothers couldn't make an appearance on the day, but a big turnout of 23 ensured a great days golf. The day was dominated by 8-time Tairua longest drive champion John Devereux as he finally put his custom made 3 wood to good use to put up 40 stablefords, banking 5 championship points, and rocketing up to 7th in the tour standings. There was a 3-way (but not in a good way) tie for 2nd with "Chief" Dempsey, bookies favourite and tour leader Marrrrrrrty Jillings, and everybody's 3rd favourite VSO Jamie Molenaar all posting 38 stablefords and 3 points apiece in the championship. Molenaar was sporting some flash shiny new bats which he obviously put to good use, the same cannot be said for his Spongebob Squarepants brother Kevin Hintz, who's obviously still just finding his range with his sparkling new set. 5th place on the day went to the always consistant coastal invader Hayden Martin who snagged himself another point, and is sitting pretty in 2nd overall.
Plenty of good golf played with many posting scores in the 33-35 range, unfortunately they all had to settle for "SPARCs under 11 netball let's not keep the score so nobody loses policy" participation point. Andy "Steelballs" Parsons may not have won on the day but he cleaned up at the TAB, George "just call me Jesus cos I can walk on water" Saunders played one out of the pond on the 5th (literally). The Mike & Mike show from Porirua Brown watch both missed out on the money, Mickelson (Flav) & Watson (Fairley) had another no show for the lefties, whislt Donnelly couldn't improve his position despite bringing his Brooklyn cronies Turtle and Huge along for moral support. Stores, Dave Marner & Boyd Atkinson rounded out the other non-scorers...
The tour rolls into Waikane next month for the Woodman Automotive Waikane Classic, should be a cracker and is the final event before the Masters (oooohhhhhh)
